Representatives of United Russia Party and Communist Party of the Russian Federation took part in the 20th National Council of Bangladesh Awami League
On the invitation of the Bangladeshi side, the United Russia Party delegation, led by Sergei Zheleznyak, Member of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Federal Assembly and Deputy Secretary of the General Council of the United Russia, visited Dhaka for the first time to take part in the 20th National Council of the Awami League, the leading political party of Bangladesh. The delegation also included Alexander Potapov, Member of the State Duma, representing the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF).
In his welcome address at the inauguration of the Awami League council, Sergei Zheleznyak, stressed the necessity of developing fruitful ties between Russia and Bangladesh. He attached special importance to close contacts between political parties.
The guests of the council were received by H.E. Sheikh Hasina, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, and H.E. Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Speaker of the Parliament of Bangladesh. Agreements were achieved to enhance inter-party contacts for strengthening friendship between Russia and Bangladesh.
The Russian delegation laid a floral wreath to Jatiyo Smriti Soudho (National Martyrs' Memorial) in Savar as a tribute to the victims of the 1971 Liberation War and visited the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum.
