Meeting with Publishers of Russian Literature in Bengali
On August 28, Ambassador of Russia to Bangladesh H.E. Alexander Ignatov met Bangladeshi publishers Ivan Gomez and Mahbubur Rahman Babu, who offered to publish Russian literature in Bengali.
Discussed were the prospects of cooperation in publishing translations of books by Russian authors.
The guests noted that in the Soviet times books of the publishing house “Progress” in Bengali were extremely popular among Bangladeshi readers. After the breakup of the USSR, the practice ended, but the publishers believe that today such books are in demand.
The partners realize that publishing requires financing and count on cooperation of the Russian side in attracting sponsors. At the same time, they take upon themselves to do the translation of books into Bengali.
The guests handed over copies of the book Rushdesher Rupkotha (Russian Folk Tales) published by «Boipotro Prokashon» to Ambassador. The translator of the folk tales Ivan Gomez asked the Embassy to get involved in distributing the books and provide informational assistance to the project. It was decided to organize a presentation of Rushdesher Rupkotha at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Dhaka and maintain contacts on the issue.
