Saint Petersburg Economic Forum (SPIEF) is a major annual international economic and business event in Russia, held under the auspices of Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation. Over the last decade SPIEF has become a leading international platform for the discussion of the key economic issues facing Russia, emerging markets, and the world as a whole. SPIEF presents investment opportunities in Russia, the Eurasian Economic Union and the Commonwealth of Independent States, hosts bilateral high-level meetings with the Russian authorities, and promotes business cooperation between Russia and other countries.
The 21st SPIEF is scheduled for June 1-3, 2017. Foreign government and business leaders, as well as representatives of civil society, academic and media circles are invited to take part in the Forum.
The 20th SPIEF, held on June 16-18, 2016, attracted more than 12,000 international and Russian participants. Representative delegations from 130 countries, including Bangladesh, took part in the forum. The official business programme of the Forum comprised over 100 events, including the SCO Business Forum, the BRICS Business Forum, Energy Company Summit, etc. The total number of 332 contracts worth 1 trillion 24 million rubles were signed at the 20th SPIEF.
The Bangladesh delegation was headed by Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Honourable Minister of Finance of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, and Abdul Matlub Ahmed, President of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI). A special panel discussion “Russia–Bangladesh: An Era of New Opportunities” was held on the final day of the Forum.
